20 militants killed in Pakistan’s tribal area operation
ISLAMABAD, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) — In last 24 hours, at least 20 militants have been killed during Pakistani security forces’ operation in the country’s South Waziristan tribal agency, according to a press release issued Sunday by Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR). The military said that eight soldiers including an officer were injured in the operation. During search and clearance operation, huge quantity of arms, ammunition and explosives were found. A factory for making electrical devices for improvised explosive devices IEDs including circuits and remote control was found and huge quantity of circuits and remote controls were recovered. Security forces also arrested 18 militants and at least three militants voluntarily surrendered. The security forces continued relief activities and 8,836 cash cards were issued amongst the displaced families of Waziristan. Pakistani security forces launched the ground assault on Oct. 17 in the South Waziristan, advancing towards the main base of Taliban militants in Pakistan. The army said that about 30,000 soldiers are in place to take on an estimated 10,000 hard-core Taliban militants in the lawless area. The military said that the operation was launched in six towns of the area in three directions and is likely to continue for six to eight weeks, but no final deadline can be given. Source
