Abdul Ahad Momand is a former Afghan Air Force aviator, who was the first Afghan in space. He was born on January 1, 1959 in Sardah, Ghazni, Afghanistan and belongs to the Mohmand tribe.  He studied and graduated from the Polytechnical University of Kabul and afterwards from the Air Force Academy.
